Things are going great so far weight-wise. Since I started less than 3 weeks ago (I don't remember the exact date), I've lost 5kg! I'm measuring my weight in kilograms because I use my Wii Fit Board to weigh myself and I don't own a scale... 5 kg is approximately 11 or so pounds. The weight so far has come off really easily and I haven't been doing any more than normal physical activity (except golf once). Ideally I'd have a more accurate scale, but exact numbers aren't really important as I'm most concerned about how I feel!
One thing I've recently learned is I have/had a hormonal imbalance (higher than normal levels of estrogen). I won't go into the exact symptoms, but one of them is weight gain around the hips and middle (check!). It may also explain why I've lost so much weight so quickly while still eating as much as I want (within the guidelines/rules Mr. T. and I set for ourselves) and not exercising (in addition to the sports I participate in normally - ultimate and baseball). As I eat more leafy greens and other fresh fruits and vegetables, my body is getting healthier and is able to process and eliminate excess estrogen better thereby decreasing estrogen levels and fat cells (where estrogen is stored). I should mention that these are purely my own thoughts on the subject and based on my limited knowledge of hormones and how they affect the body. Whether or not this is why I'm losing weight easily and quickly is not really important to me at this point, I'm just happy that I've been able to lose it.
I have noticed that the healthier I eat, the less "bad" food (sugar) I crave. My cravings haven't gone away completely, but they are definitely manageable now and not such a fight! I've also noticed, that if I'm tired and I have anything with white (or processed sugar) in it, it'll help me stay awake for a very brief period, but then I crash hard and am WAY more tired soon after! I now try to avoid the sugar completely and instead have a water, banana or some kind of healthy snack. This has helped me avoid afternoon slumps almost completely.
I already have so much more energy than I did when I started eating this way as well as less brain fog. I used to come home from work and just want to take a nap. Now, I am able to make dinner and stay awake until bedtime most nights! It used to be a struggle just to make supper and now I can make real meals! I like having the energy once I get home to cook up tasty meals with my CSA and other local ingredients.
With regards to my allergies, I've noticed a definite clearing of my skin and less itchiness. My skin is also healing quicker when injured (scrapes, cuts, bruises). I have noticed however, after sweating I get extremely itchy all over. My body is trying to get rid of all the toxins and such and it comes out my pores. Once I shower I'm fine. I know this will decrease in the future (it did before while I was eating a yeast-free diet), but in the meantime, it's REALLY annoying!
Once I gain a bit more energy I'll start to add some kind of muscle strengthening exercises. Until then, I'm using all my energy on making healthy meals, ultimate, baseball and blogging!
That's about all I have to post right now. If you're wondering what my "diet" consists of exactly, you can see my original post "I'm going on a diet".
Note: This neat little weight loss counter I got from myfitnesspal tracks my progress. It will be updated automatically as I lose or gain weight!
Bye for now!
